Prof. S. Yathiraj was born on 15th March, 1955. He completed his Bachelors in Veterinary Science from Veterinary College, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in 1978. He completed his Masters in Veterinary Medicine from the same college in 1981. Awarded Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine in 1991 from Veterinary College, Tirupati. He is recipient of University Gold Medal, Sowmyanayakamma Gold Medal, State Award and Jawaharlal Nehru Award for having secured 4.00/4.00 CGPA during M.V.Sc. programme and ICAR Senior Fellowship during doctoral programme.
Prof.S. Yathiraj has guided a number of students towards their postgraduate and doctoral programmes. He has left his foot-print in his 26 years of career involving teaching, research and extension. As Professor and Head, Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary College he ensured total modernization of the Veterinary Hospital.
He has published more than 60 research papers, 80 scientific papers, books. Participated in workshops and seminars at St.Louis, Kansas, Purdue, Minnesota (USA), Bangkok (Thailand), Colombo, Candy (Srilanka), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Sydney (Australia) as lead paper presenter. Served in editorial board of numerous technical journals.
With his rich teaching and research experience and administrative acumen, he was instrumental in developing and modernizing the Veterinary Clinical Medicine Department. He was instrumental in starting a referral unit comprising of cardiology and Nephrology section at the Veterinary College Hospital.
Organised National seminars on Equine Breeding and Health, Canine Nutrition, Breeding and Health, and other symposia during the Veterinary College Golden Jubilee Celebrations (1958-2008) as Organizing Secretary.
He is recipient of Special PACE Award 2004, P.Z.Sharma Canine Gold Medal of ISVM, Life Time Achievement Award of KVC and other recognitions.
